History

Founded by Alan H. Pierrot, MD, orthopedic surgeon, Fresno Surgery Center (FSC) opened as an outpatient surgery center in December 1984. Within its first year, FSC was in the top 10% of all freestanding outpatient surgery centers in the nation based on the number of patients served. Even more impressive was the facility's radical approach to customer service. A rare combination of hospitality and healthcare excellence has always been Fresno Surgical Center distinguishing factor.

In September of 1988, FSC was designated by the California State Legislature as the first participant in a pilot project and opened its post-surgical recovery care center. This expanded FSC's scope of service to include overnight post-surgical care - the first facility in the nation to do so in a non-hospital setting.

To prepare for its new overnight patients, FSC worked with leading restaurants and hotels like the Ritz Carlton to develop its signature brand of legendary service including: a first-class kitchen led by experienced chefs, superior room service, staff trained in customer service techniques and a retreat-like ambiance unsurpassed in healthcare.

In April 1993, FSC embarked on yet another new beginning -- becoming licensed as an acute-care hospital. FSC continues to admit only surgery patients, but hospital licensure enables FSC to serve inpatients (including Medicare patients) without restrictions on the length of their recovery stay.

Fresno Surgery Center earned the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations’ (JCAHO) gold seal of approval in December 2005.  JCAHO’s gold seal is considered the gold standard in health care and is an internationally recognized symbol of quality.  Earning the JCAHO accreditation reflects Fresno Surgery Center’s commitment to providing the highest level of patient safety and care.

In April 2006, Cirrus Health, a development and management company located in Trophy Club, Texas, became the general partner of FSC. Cirrus Health continued the original expansion plans, and renamed the facility to Fresno Surgical Hospital.

Fresno Surgical Hospital has been privileged to be a leader in this new model of surgical care and continues to set the pace nationally.
